Labour market

Conducting an activation policy through labor market programs, implementation of projects co-financed by the European Social Fund, dissemination of career counseling in the region, increased activity of training institutions, as well as cooperation with employers in the last few years have contributed to the improvement of the labor market situation in the Lubelskie Voivodeship. This state of affairs was confirmed by indicators and statistical data showing, inter alia, decline in unemployment.

Unfortunately, the year 2020 and the global COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the ongoing boom in the labor market and brought about unfavorable socio-economic changes. The omnipresent pandemic forced all economies to introduce a number of restrictions that significantly affected the economy and the functioning of society. However, despite these many limitations in 2020 and at the beginning of 2021, registered unemployment increased slightly, both in Poland and in the Lubelskie Voivodeship. It was possible thanks to the implemented anti-crisis measures aimed primarily at the protection of jobs and maintaining the financial liquidity of enterprises.

In addition, the negative effects of the introduced restrictions were also mitigated by the support of the so-called trade shield. It should be mentioned here that companies operating in the tourism, hotel and catering industries are in the most difficult situation. The following indicators and statistical data showing the situation on the local labor market confirm the correctness of the actions taken by the public employment services.

According to the data of the Statistical Office in Lublin, in 2021, in the Lubelskie Voivodeship, the average employment in the enterprise sector was 0.3% lower than in 2020. The largest increase in employment in December 2021, compared to December 2020, was recorded in the following sections: real estate services (by 2.9%), industrial processing (by 0.6%) and information and communication (by 0.5%) . On the other hand, employment decreased in the following sections: administration and support activities (by 11.5%), accommodation and catering (by 8%) and professional, scientific and technical activities (by 5%).

Despite the difficulties in the economy caused by 2021, it was another year in which the number of entities entered into the REGON register increased - by 6,660 entities compared to 2020. According to the data of the Statistical Office in Lublin, on December 31, 2021, 199,397 entities were registered in the Lubelskie Voivodeship, 190,918 of which were private sector companies. They accounted for 4.1% of all entities in the country. Most of them were based in cities, and 25% of them had their seat in Lublin itself. Among all entities, the largest group were natural persons running a business - over 75.5%. 22.1% of entities conducted activities included in the PKD trade section; repair of motor vehicles.
